When Should You Consider an Autism Evaluation?

Early identification is important, especially for kids under age 5. Potential signs of autism or another developmental difference include:

  • Delayed speech or limited vocabulary
  • Repetitive behaviors (e.g., lining up toys, repeating words/phrases, etc.)
  • Limited eye contact or difficulty engaging with others
  • Strong reliance on routines or becoming upset with small changes
  • Sensory sensitivities, such as being overwhelmed by sounds, textures, or lights

If you’re considering an autism evaluation in Machesney Park, our team is here to support you. We offer virtual diagnostic testing so you can get answers sooner, and from the comfort of home.

Miss. Carley is absolutely amazing to work with. My son can be quite shy. Within the first few visits she had him chatting away. Her communication was on point, she was creative with his sessions to keep my son engaged, and was very knowledgeable. I am so very thankful for her.

The front desk staff was also wonderful. Ms. LaDonna is an absolute ray of sunshine. Always greeted us with a warm smile and friendly face.

I would highly recommend Westside Therapy! The staff is friendly, inviting, and very knowledgeable.

FAQs

How long does it take to get an autism evaluation in Machesney Park?

With our SAIL program, most families complete the full evaluation process in 2 to 3 days—compared to the months-long waits typical at many providers. The entire process is conducted virtually, so there’s no need to travel or take time off work for in-person appointments.

How much does an autism evaluation cost?

At Westside, autism diagnostic testing through our SAIL program is completely free. There’s no cost to the family and no obligation to continue with any services after testing is complete. We believe early answers shouldn’t come with a financial barrier.

Does Westside provide ABA therapy for children with autism in Machesney Park?

Yes, Westside Children’s Therapy provides well-structured, evidence-based programs through customized pediatric ABA therapy in Machesney Park. We offer clinic-based care with a full team of Registered Behavior Technicians™ (RBTs) and Board Certified Behavior Analysts™ (BCBAs). Our team focuses on behavior improvement, social skills, and communication development. As a core part of our pediatric autism therapy, we personalize programs, use data to drive decisions, and regularly monitor sessions to ensure steady progress.

How do I know which therapy is right for my child?

To determine the right therapy for your child, you first need to hire a qualified child therapist in Machesney Park for a comprehensive evaluation. The process will identify your child’s strengths, weaknesses, and developmental needs. Based on the observational findings and evaluation, the therapist will recommend targeted therapies to ensure your child receives appropriate support for overall development.

Can my child participate in more than one therapy at a time?

Yes, your child can participate in multiple programs simultaneously if they are clinically necessary. Many children benefit from a combination of services, for example, speech or occupational therapy alongside pediatric ABA therapy in Machesney Park. Well-structured, coordinated care ensures that all therapies collectively address your child’s developmental needs without compromising consistency or overall progress.

How often will my child need to attend therapy?

The frequency of therapy sessions entirely depends on your child’s needs, goals, and therapeutic recommendations. Some children attend sessions multiple times a week, especially for programs like pediatric autism therapy in Machesney Park. Our therapists will provide a clear schedule based on the evaluation findings, your routine and your availability.

What occupational therapy services does Westside provide for children?

Westside’s occupational therapy focuses on sensory integration, fine motor skills, and independence with daily tasks. A licensed child therapist in Machesney Park designs engaging, one-on-one sessions to guide children through goal-based activities and consistently track progress. They support family coordination, school readiness, and functional abilities to help children perform everyday activities independently.

How soon can my child start therapy after the initial consultation?

Once the initial consultation and evaluation are complete, we typically recommend beginning therapy as early as the schedule allows. We provide families with clear timelines and next steps so they can access professional care for their children without delay.
