When Should You Consider an Autism Evaluation?

Early identification is important, especially for kids under age 5. Potential signs of autism or another developmental difference include:

  • Delayed speech or limited vocabulary
  • Repetitive behaviors (e.g., lining up toys, repeating words/phrases, etc.)
  • Limited eye contact or difficulty engaging with others
  • Strong reliance on routines or becoming upset with small changes
  • Sensory sensitivities, such as being overwhelmed by sounds, textures, or lights

If you’re considering an autism evaluation in Geneva, our team is here to support you. We offer virtual diagnostic testing so you can get answers sooner, and from the comfort of home.

I really appreciate kind efforts and work the entire team of therapists do for my son. I indeed see lots of progress in my son in terms of understanding and cognitive functions. I like great behavior analytics skills of Lauren Pierce, She always listens to your needs and perspectives regarding your kids and helps accordingly. The front desk lady Natalie is very helpful and organized. All therapists( BCBA)- Shade, Kali, Jenny, melinda and others are very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The only downside at this center is not having occupational therapists. This is my honest review to the clinic coordinator and manager to hire OCCUPATIONAL and Speech pathologist soon. My son really needs OT and SLP for 2 days a week minimum.
Thanks!!!
Wonderful experience here! Great therapist and so much help in even just a short amount of time!

The staff are amazing! We have nothing but wonderful things to say about the facility and staff. They were personable, kind and remembered us by name and would always ask about week/weekend.The also would advocate and take care of all insurance inquiries and pushback to ensure our son got all the time he needed. They also kept us updated on his progress each week and the amount of time insurance would approve for us when needed. We saw great progress with our son every week throughout our time there. We would recommend this location to everyone!

FAQs

How long does it take to get an autism evaluation in Geneva?

With our SAIL program, most families complete the full evaluation process in 2 to 3 days—compared to the months-long waits typical at many providers. The entire process is conducted virtually, so there’s no need to travel or take time off work for in-person appointments.

How much does an autism evaluation cost?

At Westside, autism diagnostic testing through our SAIL program is completely free. There’s no cost to the family and no obligation to continue with any services after testing is complete. We believe early answers shouldn’t come with a financial barrier.

What ages does Westside treat at its Geneva clinic?

Westside Children’s Therapy supports children from early developmental stages through adolescence (birth through eighteen). However, services like ABA therapy begin at 3. We also offer counseling services for adults and caregivers, tailoring care plans according to age, needs, and milestones.

What should I bring to the first session?

For the first visit, bring all medical records, evaluation reports, and any notes related to your child’s development or behavioral concerns. Our licensed therapists closely evaluate them and discuss the challenges they face to better understand your child’s needs. Based on this, they create a personalized plan that aligns with their growth goals from day one.

How can counseling help my child?

Child counseling in Geneva, IL, helps parents or caregivers understand a child’s emotions, manage anxiety, and build the confidence children need to handle social situations. A child therapist uses age-appropriate, supportive techniques to enhance emotional balance and communication. Over time, counseling helps children develop stronger coping skills, which positively affect their behavior, social connections, and mental well-being.

Is ABA a part of your autism therapy program?

Yes, ABA is a core part of our autism therapy program. It primarily focuses on strengthening communication and building behavioral and daily living skills through structured methods. Therapists work closely with families and provide updates to ensure the plan closely aligns with your child’s unique developmental goals.

Does speech therapy help children with communication delays?

Speech therapy is highly effective in correcting communication delays. Licensed therapists focus on enhancing speech and language clarity, comprehension, and social interaction skills. Through engaging, activity-focused sessions, therapists support and encourage children to confidently express themselves, connect better with their peers and families, and reach developmental milestones.

How long will my child need autism or ABA therapy?

Children with autism typically spend 10 to 30 hours per week on ABA therapy. However, hours may vary depending on a child’s needs, progress, and expectations. While some children benefit from short-term sessions, others require support for a longer period to reach their goals. Our therapists regularly assess progress and adjust strategies to ensure the program remains relevant and effective.
