When Should You Consider an Autism Evaluation?

Early identification is important, especially for kids under age 5. Potential signs of autism or another developmental difference include:

  • Delayed speech or limited vocabulary
  • Repetitive behaviors (e.g., lining up toys, repeating words/phrases, etc.)
  • Limited eye contact or difficulty engaging with others
  • Strong reliance on routines or becoming upset with small changes
  • Sensory sensitivities, such as being overwhelmed by sounds, textures, or lights

If you’re considering an autism evaluation in Glen Ellyn, our team is here to support you. We offer virtual diagnostic testing so you can get answers sooner, and from the comfort of home.

I have nothing but great things to say about Westside Glen Ellyn. I will start off with the Occupational Therapist who also did my daughter's feeding therapy, Marissa. Well she is wonderful and can work what feels like miracles at times. Allie at the front desk is easy to work with and helpful. Liz's physical and speech therapists have also been awesome and we did notice improvements that were amazing. As for the ABA team, all of them were kind and easy to talk to. I never had an negative experience there.

My daughter also seemed to love all her therapists and would talk about them in her own way. It's pretty funny walking at a campground looking at campsites and Liz starts pointing to each one naming therapist names, saying they can camp there. Truthfully we would still have her therapy there if we weren't moving away.

Very well organized and helpful! I called to initiate our referral from our pediatrician, and the intake coordinator walked us through the steps and sent everything via email. It was very easy to fill out all the required paperwork digitally which was automatically sent back to the group. After paperwork was settled they immediately called for scheduling. Very informative and easy phone call again. Now because I’m flexible with when I’m willing to bring my child in, I was able to get our first appointment about a week after my initial call to them. The front desk staff at our first appointment was very friendly and informative again as was the therapist. Overall a super easy process with personable, helpful, and knowledgeable staff at every step of the way.

I highly recommend if someone is looking for any kind of therapy, that this is the place to go.
My daughter was going to Easter seals and I didn’t see a difference but now that she has only been at Westside for a month I have seen a HUGE difference.
Each and every employee that I have talked to are super nice.

Although we have just recently completed our initial evaluation and assessment with Emily- Pediatric OT, I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I now understand why their reviews are so high. They are effective communicators, child and health care advocates, safety is a top priority, as well as collaboration with family. We look forward to continuing our services with Westside Plainfield!

FAQs

How long does it take to get an autism evaluation in Glen Ellyn?

With our SAIL program, most families complete the full evaluation process in 2 to 3 days—compared to the months-long waits typical at many providers. The entire process is conducted virtually, so there’s no need to travel or take time off work for in-person appointments.

How much does an autism evaluation cost?

At Westside, autism diagnostic testing through our SAIL program is completely free. There’s no cost to the family and no obligation to continue with any services after testing is complete. We believe early answers shouldn’t come with a financial barrier.

Do you offer ABA therapy for autism in Glen Ellyn?

Yes. ABA therapy is available at our Glen Ellyn clinic. It can help children build communication, social, behavior, and daily living skills. At Westside, ABA is tailored to the child because support should reflect the child’s needs, not follow the same plan for everyone. Many families explore ABA as part of support for a child with autism.

Is feeding therapy part of your pediatric services?

Yes. Feeding therapy is one of the services at our Glen Ellyn clinic. It is designed to help children facing difficulties with textures, chewing, swallowing, food variety, or mealtime routines that have become stressful. The work is gradual and child-focused. We aim to support progress without making meals feel even more overwhelming for the child or their family.

Can my child receive multiple therapies at once?

Many children benefit from more than one type of support. A child may receive speech therapy alongside occupational therapy, feeding therapy, counseling, or other services, depending on their needs. At Westside, our team can help you assess if your child needs one or a combination of therapies for optimal benefit, all under one roof, in a safe and nurturing environment.

Does your Glen Ellyn clinic accept insurance?

Westside works with many insurance plans, and coverage can vary. The best way to get current information for Glen Ellyn is to contact the clinic directly. Westside also offers a free insurance review to help families understand coverage and payment options.

How involved are parents in therapy sessions?

Parents are an important part of the process. We keep families informed about goals, progress, and ways to support skills outside the clinic as well. The exact level of involvement may vary depending on the service and the child. Parents’ input matters, and their role in supporting progress matters just as much.
