When Should You Consider an Autism Evaluation?

Early identification is important, especially for kids under age 5. Potential signs of autism or another developmental difference include:

  • Delayed speech or limited vocabulary
  • Repetitive behaviors (e.g., lining up toys, repeating words/phrases, etc.)
  • Limited eye contact or difficulty engaging with others
  • Strong reliance on routines or becoming upset with small changes
  • Sensory sensitivities, such as being overwhelmed by sounds, textures, or lights

If you’re considering an autism evaluation in New Lenox, our team is here to support you. We offer virtual diagnostic testing so you can get answers sooner, and from the comfort of home.

Our son loved the staff during his evaluation. But Ill give a warning, get everything in writing with them. Any interaction or person you speak with on the phone, get what they say in writing because otherwise you might end up owing a huge bill because someone told you one thing and their billing does another.

The staff here are excellent and my son absolutely loves it here. We toured about a dozen ABA therapy centers this past summer after our son's diagnosis and Westside really stuckout to us, so we went with our gut. Now 4 months into their program, our son had made progress we thought would've taken years. He actually has fun and looks forward to coming here every day!

I can't say enough good things about this center, the people here are amazing and I couldn't be happier knowing that my child is getting the best ABA therapy available. *Happily* learning and playing, and blowing our expectations out of the water. Thank you so much to the staff here at Westside, can't recommend them enough!!

We have been using Westside for over a year now and have had nothing short of a great experience with the facility and our therapist Carrie Ann! My 3 year old son loves seeing her and has made so much progress with her techniques and resources! We are so grateful that our 1 year old will also get to spend time with Carrie Ann!

Miss Jess P. is an amazing speech therapist. She is super patient and dedicated. My son loves Miss Jess and he asks every day if he can go see her. She is the highlight of my son’s week. I’m amazed how much progress he made since starting the therapy.

Westside was recommended to us for speech services by our pediatrician and in the last 6 months we have been there, we have loved every minute of it. Our speech pathologist is wonderful (shout out to Miss Carrie Ann), our toddler loves meeting with her, and we can see progress in this relatively short amount of time.
Another excellent thing with this center is the front desk staff. Calling them to cancel and reschedule is almost like a treat. They are so helpful and understanding and just super nice.

Westside is an incredible place! My son is 13 and has been receiving ABA therapy for 3 years! It can be very difficult to find a therapy place that is skilled, willing and excited to work with older kids! He also receives other therapies at Westside as well, and it is all wonderful! Love them! They have really made a difference in my son, and in our family!
Highly highly recommend!

Westside New Lenox is truly amazing! We have been going to Westside for three years and my son absolutely loves coming to therapy. His therapists Kayla (OT), Kelli (speech) and Becca (PT) are so caring, patient and knowledgeable with not only my son but with me as well. Anytime I have a question or a concern they are right there to help, explain and offer their advice and expertise. They truly care about helping my son succeed and really push him to do his best. They are invested. The atmosphere that the therapists and Kathy create at Westside truly feels like family that wants the best for you and will help you in every way they can. We love Westside!

FAQs

How long does it take to get an autism evaluation in New Lenox?

With our SAIL program, most families complete the full evaluation process in 2 to 3 days—compared to the months-long waits typical at many providers. The entire process is conducted virtually, so there’s no need to travel or take time off work for in-person appointments.

How much does an autism evaluation cost?

At Westside, autism diagnostic testing through our SAIL program is completely free. There’s no cost to the family and no obligation to continue with any services after testing is complete. We believe early answers shouldn’t come with a financial barrier.

What ages does Westside treat at its New Lenox clinic?

Westside Children’s Therapy, New Lenox clinic, treats children of all ages. Whether you have an infant, a toddler, or a teenager, our therapy programs are suitable for all. If you want to learn about the different age groups that we serve, connect with our team of experts today.

How do you personalize therapy plans for each child?

We offer personalized therapy plans for each child. Our process begins with an assessment of their conditions and goals that they want to achieve. We also assess the child’s strengths and weaknesses to determine the most effective and appropriate course of therapy. Once we have clear information about these aspects, we design a plan tailored to them.

What conditions does physical therapy support in children?

Physical therapy helps children build strength, mobility, balance, and coordination so they can move confidently and participate fully in daily activities. Our PT is suitable for children who have developmental delays and are experiencing gross motor challenges, gait abnormalities, and neurological disorders.

Are parents involved in the therapy process?

Yes, parents play a very crucial role in our therapy process. They are closely involved in activities designed for their child and receive strategies and tips to promote continuous progress outside the clinic.

How do therapists track progress and milestones?

Therapists track progress through a structured approach. They use standardized assessments, observation notes, and skill checklists to measure improvements in communication behaviors, motor skills, or activities of daily living.

How soon can therapy begin after an evaluation?

Therapy can begin shortly after we complete the initial evaluation. Once done, the team reviews the results, identifies your child’s needs, and creates a personalized treatment plan.
