When Should You Consider an Autism Evaluation?

Early identification is important, especially for kids under age 5. Potential signs of autism or another developmental difference include:

  • Delayed speech or limited vocabulary
  • Repetitive behaviors (e.g., lining up toys, repeating words/phrases, etc.)
  • Limited eye contact or difficulty engaging with others
  • Strong reliance on routines or becoming upset with small changes
  • Sensory sensitivities, such as being overwhelmed by sounds, textures, or lights

If you’re considering an autism evaluation in Rockford, our team is here to support you. We offer virtual diagnostic testing so you can get answers sooner, and from the comfort of home.

As good as it look on the website, I decided today to take my toddler out of Westside because we’ve been harassed by Lisa. This place has made us feel so uncomfortable bringing our child here…only due to the front desk worker (Lisa) She’s been harassing about co-pays before the day could be over with. Also charging us before when we had already paid. One day she charged us mistakenly just because she saw us walk in when that wasn’t even our due date. It is 2025, it isn’t hard to figure out when somebody doesn't want you there. Its not about your feelings or how you feel about someone that you don’t know. It’s about making sure the child gets the learning that they need. I don’t recommend anyone to take their child to Westside Therapy. My son will be starting service elsewhere.

My daughter has been seeing Danielle for the past couple months for speech therapy, and after some resistance at the very first session, my daughter likes to go. Her therapist has found ways to make her comfortable and connect, and she is exceeding our expectations. Would definitely recommend!

I love the Plainfield North location where my son has gone for the last almost 3 years. He graduated from PT last year and they were amazing and recently he graduated from Speech and she is amazing. He’s currently still going for OT once a month and continues to do great with his amazing therapist. My son can’t wait for his visits and it’s such a friendly and caring environment, definitely would recommend.

FAQs

How long does it take to get an autism evaluation in Rockford?

With our SAIL program, most families complete the full evaluation process in 2 to 3 days—compared to the months-long waits typical at many providers. The entire process is conducted virtually, so there’s no need to travel or take time off work for in-person appointments.

How much does an autism evaluation cost?

At Westside, autism diagnostic testing through our SAIL program is completely free. There’s no cost to the family and no obligation to continue with any services after testing is complete. We believe early answers shouldn’t come with a financial barrier.

Do you provide ABA therapy for children with autism?

Yes, the team of certified therapists at Westside provides structured ABA therapy to improve a child’s communication, behavior, and everyday living skills. Our ABA therapy services use one-on-one sessions and data-driven strategies to offer consistent support for building functional abilities. Through guided support and consistent care, children can build independence and support long-term developmental progress.

How can a child therapist help my child improve social and communication skills?

A trained child therapist in Rockford, IL, closely identifies the child’s developmental needs to develop customized strategies. They adopt structured interactions, guided practice, and modeling to help children develop their social and communication skills. With a therapist’s guidance, your child can become more confident in understanding social cues, following conversations, and expressing their feelings more clearly.

How do your therapists create personalized plans for each child?

Our therapists begin with a detailed evaluation to observe a child’s behavior and assess their communication and developmental needs. Based on the outcomes, our skilled pediatric therapist in Rockford creates an individualized care plan with clear, measurable goals. They consistently track progress and adjust strategies to maintain relevance and continue progress.

How long are typical therapy sessions?

Although therapy sessions generally last 30 to 60 minutes, the exact duration depends on a child’s needs and the program type. Therapies are mostly play-based to maintain focus and engagement. So, our therapists design schedules that balance effectiveness with your child’s attention span and comfort.

How do you coordinate care between ABA, OT, speech, and counseling?

Our therapists collaborate closely across disciplines to align a child’s long-term goals and seamlessly share progress updates. Such coordination helps maintain consistency in care services, including ABA therapy in Rockford, IL, speech therapy, and counseling. Our integrated support addresses multiple areas without creating unnecessary conflicts between different approaches.

Do you accept insurance for pediatric therapy services in Rockford?

Yes, we accept a range of insurance plans to help families access the best therapeutic care for their children’s development. Optum, Duly Health and Care, Tricare, Aetna, and BlueCross BlueShield are among the accepted in-network insurances. However, we currently don’t accept Medicaid. Whether you want a pediatric therapist in Rockford for a single or multiple therapies, consult our team for assistance and make care easily accessible.
