When Should You Consider an Autism Evaluation?

Early identification is important, especially for kids under age 5. Potential signs of autism or another developmental difference include:

  • Delayed speech or limited vocabulary
  • Repetitive behaviors (e.g., lining up toys, repeating words/phrases, etc.)
  • Limited eye contact or difficulty engaging with others
  • Strong reliance on routines or becoming upset with small changes
  • Sensory sensitivities, such as being overwhelmed by sounds, textures, or lights

If you’re considering an autism evaluation in Carol Stream, our team is here to support you. We offer virtual diagnostic testing so you can get answers sooner, and from the comfort of home.

My son attends Westside Children's Therapy, and we are incredibly fortunate to work with Kristen. She is not only kind, friendly, and knowledgeable, but also makes every session enjoyable for my son. He looks forward to his weekly visits because she makes learning fun and engaging. Kristen goes above and beyond by keeping me informed about what was accomplished during each session, so I can support his progress at home. Her communication and dedication are truly appreciated. I highly recommend Kristen and Westside Children's Therapy!

I am very glad that I found the best physical therapist for my baby. Elicia was very helpful and she’s the best PT I have ever seen. She will answer all your questions patiently and will accommodate you if you have any special concerns about your kid’s therapy on going sessions. My little one loves to see her. The staff is very friendly and the office is very clean and tidy.

I can’t recommend Westside Children’s Therapy enough, especially for physical therapy. My daughter wasn’t close to walking when we started. When she ended, she was just about running. Natalie P. and Fernanda worked so hard with Dani. You can tell they are truly passionate about the work they do and strive to get great results. We will miss seeing them weekly, but are so grateful for them. They will always be a part of Daniela’s journey.

Everyone here is welcoming and amazing at developing relationships with the children. They make it very clear what they are working on at appointments and what we can do at home to further fine tune the skills they work on every week.

FAQs

How long does it take to get an autism evaluation in Carol Stream?

With our SAIL program, most families complete the full evaluation process in 2 to 3 days—compared to the months-long waits typical at many providers. The entire process is conducted virtually, so there’s no need to travel or take time off work for in-person appointments.

How much does an autism evaluation cost?

At Westside, autism diagnostic testing through our SAIL program is completely free. There’s no cost to the family and no obligation to continue with any services after testing is complete. We believe early answers shouldn’t come with a financial barrier.

Which ages do you treat at your Carol Stream clinic?

We work with children across a wide age range, from early childhood through the teenage years. Each program is tailored to your child’s developmental stage, so support always feels appropriate and relevant. Sometimes families come to us early when they notice delays, while others come after a school recommendation.

How often will my child need therapy?

This depends on your child’s needs and goals. Some children need multiple sessions per week, while others come less often. The schedule is tailored to achieve steady progress without overwhelming your child or your family. Our team revisits schedules after a few weeks to see if adjustments are required.

How long does each therapy session last?

Most therapy sessions last between 30 and 60 minutes. The exact length depends on the type of therapy and your child’s attention. The aim is to keep sessions engaging and productive. Our therapist assesses the child’s mood and adjusts sessions to match their mood or energy levels on any given day.

How are therapy goals set and tracked?

Therapy goals are created after an initial consultation. Therapists track progress made in each session and adjust plans as needed. Parents receive updates every step of the way. So you always know about the developments and improvements made during each session. Small wins become evident at home, and those are a big part of the journey.

How do I schedule an appointment for my child?

Scheduling an appointment is easy. You can call the clinic, email the clinic, or fill out an online request form. Our team will guide you through the next steps and help you choose a time that best suits you and your family. Our staff will walk you through the process if you face any issues.
